Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Ornellaia was established in 1981 in Bolgheri, on Tuscany’s Mediterranean coast. The estate released its first Ornellaia vintage in 1985 and has since become closely associated with the modern identity of Bolgheri. Today Ornellaia is owned by the Frescobaldi family.

The estate stretches between Bolgheri and the sea, with vineyards divided into many small parcels across marine, alluvial and volcanic-origin soils. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the principal red varieties, joined by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot — the classic backbone of Ornellaia’s Bolgheri style.

Ornellaia’s identity is inseparable from Bolgheri’s coastal setting: Mediterranean light, maritime influence and Bordeaux varieties interpreted through the soils and exposures of the Tuscan coast.
