Soto del Vicario

Soto del Vicario is the Bierzo winery of Pago del Vicario, located in San Clemente near Cacabelos in León. The estate covers 35 hectares, with 19 hectares under vine divided into 190 small parcels and surrounded by native woodland, giving the project a distinctly Atlantic and landscape-driven identity.

The vineyards include some of the region’s emblematic varieties, including Mencía, Godello, Doña Blanca, Jerez and Malvasía. Many of the vines are old, with some Mencía reaching more than a century in age, and the small-parcel structure demands detailed, largely artisanal work in the vineyard.

Since 2006, winemaker Sandra Luque Muñoz has led the project with a focus on preserving varietal character, freshness and the identity of Bierzo. Soto del Vicario combines traditional regional viticulture with careful modern cellar work while remaining closely tied to its old vines and forested setting.
