Petrus

Petrus sits on the Pomerol plateau, where its 28.4-acre vineyard occupies one of the appellation’s highest points. The estate is especially associated with its iron-rich blue clay subsoil — a defining feature of the site and one of the keys to Petrus’s distinctive expression of Merlot.

The modern story of Petrus is closely tied to the Moueix family. Jean-Pierre Moueix’s acquisition of the estate became a defining moment for the family business, with Christian Moueix later overseeing it for 38 vintages and Jean-François Moueix taking on management from 2009.

Petrus is defined less by scale or spectacle than by concentration: one small Pomerol estate, one highly distinctive clay plateau and a singular focus on expressing that site through Merlot.
