Domaine Bonneau du Martray
Domaine Bonneau du Martray is one of the historic domaines of the hill of Corton, based in Pernand-Vergelesses and closely identified with the Charlemagne climat. Its vineyard stretches in a single continuous holding across the western side of the hill, from the upper slopes near the forest to the lower parcels, capturing a wide range of soils and exposures within Corton-Charlemagne.
The domaine has identified three microclimates and nine distinct soil types across this slope, including combinations of clay, silt, marl and limestone. Chardonnay dominates the vineyard for Corton-Charlemagne, while Pinot Noir is planted lower on the hill for Corton Grand Cru. The estate has practiced biodynamic viticulture for more than a decade and is Demeter certified.
In the cellar, Corton-Charlemagne is fermented in a combination of new and older French oak, then aged on fine lees through a second winter before final blending and bottling. The domaine’s work is centered on expressing the differences within the Charlemagne hillside while preserving freshness, structure and mineral definition.
