Charles Bove

Charles Bove is a Loire Valley négociant house founded in the 19th century in Montrichard, in the heart of Touraine. Its historic base is an immense former tuffeau limestone quarry cut into the hillside near the Cher River, only a short distance from Château de Chenonceau.

The underground cellar system extends for more than 9 miles across three levels, maintaining an almost constant temperature of about 53°F with the humidity naturally suited to ageing wine. The caves have long been central to the house’s production, particularly for traditional-method sparkling wines that rest underground during their secondary fermentation and maturation.

Charles Bove works with fruit and must sourced from growers across the Loire, then vinifies, blends and bottles in Montrichard. Alongside its sparkling-wine heritage, the wider Charles Bove and Donatien Bahuaud portfolio includes still wines from Touraine and Vouvray that emphasize the Loire’s fresh, direct regional style.
