Caymus Vineyards

Caymus Vineyards was opened in Rutherford in 1972 by Charlie Wagner Sr., Lorna Wagner and their son Chuck, beginning with just 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery grew from a family farming tradition in Napa Valley and remains family-owned, with the next generation continuing the work alongside Chuck.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the center of Caymus, drawn from low-fertility soils on both the Napa Valley floor and the mountains surrounding it. The family’s viticulture includes some dry farming, high-density plantings, yield thinning and harvesting at elevated ripeness, all aimed at producing the dark, concentrated and supple style associated with the estate.

Special Selection sits at the heart of the Caymus identity: each year, the family sets aside the best barrels of its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon for this limited bottling. Across the range, the emphasis remains on generous fruit, structure and a style intended to be expressive from release while still capable of aging.
