Bodega Piedra Negra

Bodega Piedra Negra is François Lurton’s Argentine estate in Los Chacayes, in the Uco Valley at the foot of the Andes. After years of searching across Argentina, Lurton chose this high-altitude, semi-desert landscape for its poor, gravelly soils and the potential he saw in an area that was still largely unexplored for fine wine.

The winery was established amid roughly 200 hectares of previously uncultivated land in Los Chacayes. From the beginning, the project paired its remote setting with an environmentally conscious approach to vineyard development and cellar design, using Lurton’s international experience to interpret the site rather than impose a borrowed model.

Piedra Negra’s identity is closely tied to the character of Los Chacayes: altitude, arid conditions, stony soils and the marked influence of the Andes. The estate’s work is centered on expressing that landscape through site-driven wines that place terroir and vineyard character at the heart of the style.
