Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is the older of the two great Gevrey Grands Crus — monastic land since the seventh century, and the only vineyard entitled to label itself Chambertin without being it. Jadot's 2005 is the dark, uncompromising face of a legendary vintage: enormous, structured and built to outlive most of what was made that year.

👃 Tasting Notes & Experience

Color: Deep, dark ruby moving to garnet
Nose: Deep black cherry, charred meat, rose and licorice
Palate: Mouth-filling and intense, with black licorice, wet stone, smoky black tea and dark tobacco
Structure: Firm tannins and a savage grip through the finish
Finish: Long, dense and mysteriously complex

2005 was one of the great modern Burgundy vintages, and Jadot's Clos de Bèze took its darkest possible reading of it. Critics who tasted it early were clear that it traded some of the refinement the site usually shows for sheer intensity and depth — a wine of formidable structure rather than immediate charm. Two decades on, that structure is exactly the point. The vineyard itself has been continuously cultivated since 640 AD, first as monastic property and then under the canons of Langres until the Revolution; Napoleon reportedly drank nothing else.
