Aux Boudots sits at the very northern tip of Nuits-Saint-Georges, sharing a boundary with Vosne-Romanée's Aux Malconsorts — which is why it so often tastes more like Vosne than like Nuits. Maxime Cheurlin's parcel runs to 1.2 hectares of vines averaging ninety years old.

• Structure: Firm but finely drawn tannins
• Finish: Long and savoury, with the domaine's saline signature

Boudots is widely held to be one of the great premiers crus of Nuits, and its position explains why: it is the last vineyard before the Vosne boundary, on a steep, stony, fast-draining slope, and it borders Aux Malconsorts directly. Ninety-year-old vines on a site like that need very little help, which suits Maxime Cheurlin's approach — a long cold soak, wild yeasts, and punching down only at the very end of fermentation. He took the estate on at twenty in 2010, ending twenty years in which the fruit had simply been sold to Jadot and Drouhin, and made it a cult name within a handful of vintages. 2013 was small, late and transparent, a vintage for site rather than season.
