Three bottles of a wine made in roughly seven-hundred-bottle quantities, from a quarter-hectare on the crest above Échézeaux. Cécile Tremblay took these vines back from long-standing tenants and has turned the domaine into one of Burgundy's most chased names.

👃 Tasting Notes & Experience

• Color: Bright, medium ruby

• Palate: Delicate and precise, with the tensile strength 2014 gave the Côte de Nuits
• Structure: Fine, ripe tannins over bright acidity
• Finish: Long and saline

The estate traces to Edouard Jayer — a cooper in Nuits-Saint-Georges before the First World War, Henri Jayer's uncle, and Cécile's great-grandfather — who married Esther Fournier in 1921 and built the holdings on her inheritance. Those vineyards spent decades leased to other growers; Cécile reclaimed three hectares in 2002-03 and the domaine has since grown toward ten as leases have fallen in. Les Rouges du Dessus sits at the top of the hill with Échézeaux and Grands Échézeaux directly below and forest above, and although the land is in Flagey-Échézeaux, Flagey's village and premier cru wines are all sold under the Vosne-Romanée name. 2014 was a cool, classically proportioned year that produced red Burgundies built on freshness and definition.
