Haro Heritage, Tempranillo Spirit — Martínez Lacuesta Cuvée 2020

Tasting Notes

Deep cherry-garnet colour with a rim showing age-hint. On the nose: black elderberry, cassis, ripe cherry, a touch of violet and balsamic notes.
Palate: firm yet graceful — ripe acidity, fine tannins, layers of dark fruit and subtle oak, finishing long with a savory, slightly mineral edge. A Rioja that speaks tradition without wearing the dusty suit.

Meet the Winemaker

Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta has roots in Haro (Rioja Alta) since 1895. Winemaking with lore and modern verve: The Cuvée comes from estate-owned vines of Tempranillo, fermented and aged with precision to reflect Haro’s limestone-inflected soils and Atlantic-influenced climate.

  • Falstaff – 91 pts (2025 tasting): “Aromas of black elderberry, cassis, cherry and blackberry, plus some flowers and balsamic notes. Medium-bodied… ripe acidity and fine tannins. Long finish.”

  • Wine Review Online – 91 pts: “Made entirely from Tempranillo… modern in style with very little obtrusive oak and open, flavorful fruit.”

Food Pairings
