Crisp Loire Legend — Henri Bourgeois ‘Les Baronnes’ Sancerre 2022

Tasting Notes

This isn’t your lazy Sauvignon—this is Loire Valley in a glass.
Pour: pale straw with green glint.
Nose: lime zest, green apple, white peach, lemongrass, and a streak of gun-flint/mineral signature from the region.
Palate: vibrant acidity, crisp edge, fruit-forward but grounded by that Loire minerality. Think yellow orchard fruit, citrus peel, and serious texture. It finishes clean, lasting, and absolutely drink-now worthy.

Meet the Winemaker

Domaine Henri Bourgeois is a Loire Valley legend: a family-run estate in Sancerre (Chavignol region) focused on Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The “Les Baronnes” label comes from chalk & clay-rich terraces above Chavignol/Sancerre, soils that give this wine its backbone and character.

Wine Specs

  • Varietal: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

  • Vintage: 2022

  • Region: Sancerre AOP, Loire Valley, France

  • Terroir/Aging: From clay-chalk hillside soils. Fermented in thermo-regulated stainless steel (15-18 °C), matured on fine lees at cool temp for ~5 months.

  • ABV: ~13% (typical for this label/vintage)

  • Bottle Size: 750 ml

  • Serving Temp: 8-10 °C — chilled enough to highlight freshness, not freeze the charm.

Critic Reviews

  • James Suckling – 90 pts: “Bright and compact… lemon peel, lemongrass, white peaches and elderflowers on the nose. It’s medium-bodied, zesty and focused. Drink now.”

  • Producer tech sheet notes: “Crispy, and fruity… lime, apple and gun-flint aromas balanced by ripe tropical and yellow orchard fruits.”

Food Pairings

  • Cold oysters or soft-shell crab — minerality meets brine.

  • Grilled sea bass with lemon-butter and herbs — freshness speaks.

  • Crottin de Chavignol (duh) or caprese with high-quality hosts — regional harmony.

  • Light pasta with lemon-zest, spinach & pine nuts — texture and zing.

Why You Need This Bottle

Because you’re done with ordinary whites. This wine is smart, crisp, and terroir-charged. It shows you know Sauvignon Blanc when you see it — freshness first, power second, but still ready to party on your table. Perfect for dinner, chat, chill, impressing without sweating.
