Left-Bank Chill – Château Graville-Lacoste Graves Blanc 2023

Tasting Notes

In the glass: pale straw with a faint green glint—light but purposeful. On the nose: honeysuckle, lychee, fresh citrus peel (lemon & lime), subtle white-peach, and wet stone minerality
On the palate: lean-and-bright acidity up front, orchard fruit (pear, green apple) cutting through, a mineral backbone that reflects the gravel and limestone soils of Graves, and a finish that stays clean, crisp and just salty-enough to keep you interested. Retail copy notes “crisp, fresh and refreshing with notes of citrus, cut grass, subtle tropical fruits.”
It’s not big and buttery — it’s Bordeaux white with elegance and restraint.

Meet the Winemaker

Château Graville‑Lacoste, located in the Graves appellation of Bordeaux (left bank), is run under the direction of winemaker Hervé Dubourdieu. Their Blanc is crafted from older vines planted on clay-limestone soil, using a high proportion of Sémillon plus Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle to deliver a white that shows both freshness and depth.
The philosophy: make whites that reflect site, not trends.

Wine Specs

  • Varietal: ~60-75% Sémillon; ~20-35% Sauvignon Blanc; ~5% Muscadelle.

  • Vintage: 2023

  • Region: Graves AOC, Bordeaux, France

  • Vinification/Aging: Stainless‐steel fermentation & aging to retain freshness and minerality. Soils: clay & limestone on fissured rock.

  • ABV: ~12% reported by one merchant.

  • Bottle Size: 375 ml

  • Serving Temp: 8-10 °C — chill properly to bring out tension and minerality.

Critic Reviews

  • Merchants call it “incredibly consistent, year in and year out: crisp, fresh and refreshing… citrus, cut grass, subtle tropical fruits” for the 2023 Blanc.

  • Another listing: “Brimming with honeysuckle, lychee, and citrus… reliably harmonious with eastern cuisine.”

  • No major published numeric score located in my scan for this exact 2023 vintage, so we stick with real commentary.

Food Pairings

  • Chilled seafood platter (oysters, littleneck clams) with a lemon-herb vinaigrette — freshness all the way.

  • Sushi or sashimi (especially white fish) or lightly spiced Thai/Indian fish curry — minerality and acidity meet spice.

  • Grilled halibut or seabass with lemon & thyme — lean white, clean match.

  • Fresh goat-cheese salad with walnuts, pear and vinaigrette — white sez a salad.

  • Light pasta with spring vegetables & olive oil — simple but elevated.

Why You Need This Bottle

Because you’re done with “safe white” that tastes like everything else. This is white Bordeaux that actually delivers: place-driven, mineral-rich, elegantly crisp. You’ll pull it when you want people to say you picked something smart — and they will.
Also: great value. That combination? Rare.
