Southern Rhône Gem — Château de Vaudieu Clos du Belvédère 2011

Tasting Notes

In the glass: a pale gold colour (yes, this one is white, interesting twist) per retailer notes. On the nose: orchard fruit, nectarine, pear, Meyer lemon, with suggestions of chalky mineral and honeysuckle
On the palate: silken texture, high clarity — the 2011 delivers intense nectarine/pear, a hint of honey-brioche, smoky nuance with air, resonating stoniness and excellent finish.
This is not your “pop and drink” wine — it’s already matured but has layers.

Meet the Winemaker

Famille Bréchet is the house behind this cuvée, operating the historic Château de Vaudieu estate (70 ha contiguous) in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône Valley, France. The “Clos du Belvédère” is one of their select offerings, showcasing their focus on refinement, terroir expression, and age-worthy wines.

Critic Reviews

  • Retail listing: “Back-ordered … Pale gold. Heady orchard and pit fruit scents … chalky minerals, honeysuckle and lemon pith. Silky and penetrating on the palate … intense nectarine, pear and Meyer lemon flavors … smoky nuance with air … long, seamless finish.”

  • Score listing: One store identifies it under “91-93 Points / 94-96 Points” zone for this bottle.

Food Pairings

  • Seared scallops with beurre blanc and lemon zest — rich white wine meets fresh shellfish.

  • Roast chicken with thyme, garlic and a side of grilled pears — aligns with the orchard fruit profile.

  • Soft mature goat cheese with honey drizzle — contrast sweet-salt meets mineral clarity.

  • Mushroom risotto finishing with a little truffle — depth without overpowering the wine.

  • Lightly spiced Thai lemongrass chicken — the wine’s minerality and citrus edge cut through spice.

Why You Need This Bottle

Because you’re done with “white wine that disappears”. This is white wine with presence, age-space, and pedigree. The 2011 vintage has matured, giving complexity, yet still showing freshness and clarity. You pull this when you want to be impressive, not just “drinkable”.
It’s refined, storied, and ready to show off.
