Gigondas Peak-Prestige — Saint Cosme Le Claux 2021
Tasting Notes
This is southern Rhône on premium mode.
Pour: deep violet-ruby, dense and promising.
Nose: fresh purple plum, eucalyptus, warm baking spice, a subtle whisper of violet and forest-herb complexity.
Palate: chewy and tightly focused with dark berry (black cherry, black raspberry), bitter cherry, Moroccan spice, licorice, pencil shaving/mineral backbone and gripping tannins.
Finish: long, structured, with salt-licked minerality and tension. Decant recommended if opening early.
Meet the Winemaker
Château de Saint Cosme has been under the Barruol family since 1490, making them one of the benchmark estates in Gigondas. The “Le Claux” vineyard is their oldest site (planted ~1870) and is planted to primarily old-vine Grenache (95%) and a little Syrah (5%) according to one product sheet. The vines grow on limestone/marl soils, and the estate pursues biodynamic practices and whole-cluster or minimal intervention vinification. This is terroir + heritage + power.
