Gitton Père & Fils

Gitton Père & Fils is a family estate in Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre whose story began in 1945, when Marcel and Huguette Gitton started with less than one hectare of vines. From the beginning, Marcel focused on separating wines by individual site, soil and exposure rather than blending everything together.

Today the domaine extends to about 33 hectares across three appellations: Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé and Coteaux du Giennois. The wines are estate-grown and estate-bottled, with parcels vinified separately to preserve the differences between terroirs.

Pascal Gitton joined the domaine after wine studies and began making wine with the 1973 vintage; he later created the current Gitton Père & Fils company in 1981. The estate is now carried forward by Pascal, Denise and their daughter Chanel. Although the name still reads “Père & Fils,” the domaine notes that today it is effectively run as a father-and-daughter family estate.
