Giacomo Conterno

Giacomo Conterno is one of the historic names of traditional Barolo, founded in 1900 and bottling under the family name by the 1920s. The estate passed from Giacomo to his son Giovanni and today is led by Roberto Conterno, with the same long-view approach that made Monfortino one of the defining wines of the Langhe.

The family’s vineyard story changed decisively in 1974 with the purchase of Cascina Francia in Serralunga d’Alba. Later acquisitions added Cerretta and Arione, giving the estate a small set of highly distinctive sites planted primarily to Nebbiolo and Barbera across Serralunga and Monforte.

In the cellar, tradition remains the point: long macerations, submerged-cap fermentation, large wooden vats and extended aging in botti. The goal is not speed or polish, but the slow development of Nebbiolo into wines with structure, clarity and the ability to evolve for decades.
