Domenico Clerico

Domenico Clerico built his estate in Monforte d’Alba around a simple idea: the vineyard comes first. His work became closely associated with the modern evolution of Barolo, but the goal remained intensely site-specific — bringing out the character of each cru rather than flattening it into a house style.

The estate grew through a sequence of important vineyard acquisitions: Bussia in 1977, then Ginestra for Ciabot Mentin and Pajana, and Mosconi for Percristina. Today the winery farms about 21 hectares and continues to organize its top Barolos around those individual sites.

Pajana, Ciabot Mentin and Percristina remain central to the estate’s identity, each showing how Clerico’s work is organized around specific Monforte and Barolo-area sites rather than a single generalized style.
