Château Cantenac Brown

Château Cantenac Brown is a historic Margaux estate classified as a Third Growth in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855. Its story is closely tied to the Scottish wine merchant John Lewis Brown, who acquired the property in 1806 and gave the château both its name and the Scottish identity that remains visible today in its distinctive Tudor-style architecture.

The estate lies on the gravelly soils of Cantenac in the Margaux appellation, where Cabernet Sauvignon is central to the grand vin alongside Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The château’s style is built around the freshness, perfume and structure associated with Margaux, with careful parcel selection and élevage in French oak.

The Le Lous family acquired Cantenac Brown in 2019 and has continued a major program of vineyard and cellar investment. A new gravity-fed winery and raw-earth cellar, inaugurated with the 2023 vintage, were designed to combine greater precision in vinification with a strong environmental approach while preserving the historic character of the estate.
