Bodega Familia Hernández

Bodega Familia Hernández is a four-generation Chilean family wine project whose history reaches back to 1971, when agronomist and winemaker Alejandro Hernández Muñoz founded Portal del Alto. Hernández combined a long academic career in oenology with decades of work across Chilean viticulture, establishing a family legacy centered on wine education and production.

Today the family continues that legacy through Portal Wines and Portal del Alto, drawing on vineyards in Maipo Alto and the southern Maule Valley. Their approach emphasizes ripe fruit, measured oak influence and wines that preserve the identity and aromas of their varieties.

In Pirque, the Bodega Alejandro Hernández – Portal del Alto sits on the south bank of the Maipo River at about 800 meters above sea level, near the Andean foothills. Together with vineyard sources farther south in Maule, these contrasting sites give the family access to distinct terroirs for Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Syrah and other Chilean varieties.
