Biondi-Santi

Biondi-Santi is inseparable from the history of Brunello di Montalcino. In the nineteenth century, Clemente Santi and his grandson Ferruccio Biondi Santi developed a style based on Sangiovese Grosso grown around Montalcino, and in 1888 Ferruccio produced the wine recognized by the estate as the first Brunello di Montalcino. Tenuta Greppo remains the historic home of the family’s work.

The estate focuses on high-altitude vineyards and estate-grown Sangiovese, with careful selection in the vineyard and a deliberately traditional cellar approach. Brunello is fermented in cement with indigenous yeasts and aged in large Slavonian oak casks, a method designed to preserve freshness, structure and the long-lived character for which Biondi-Santi became known.
