2013 is what Burgundians call a terroir vintage — no excess ripeness, no green austerity, just the site speaking. In Clos de Bèze it produced a wine of perfumed fruit set against strict minerality, with tannins serious enough to demand real patience.

👃 Tasting Notes & Experience

• Nose: Perfumed and floral, with gorgeous red fruit against a strict mineral backdrop
• Palate: Pure and lifted, concentrated without weight
• Structure: Severe, solid, dark tannins beneath the fruit — the promise of enormous potential
• Finish: Very long and persistent, silky at the edges
The growing season was genuinely difficult: cool, then hot with severe storms, then hail and heavy rain, then dry spells. Yields were small and picking was late. What came out the other side was a vintage without the distortions of heat or dilution — which is why growers took to calling it the ultimate terroir year. Clos de Bèze responded with finesse rather than force, though the tannic frame here means it was never built for early drinking; critics pointed to 2023 as the opening date and it will run well beyond that.
