The curiosity of this wine is that a village-level Pommard comes off the oldest and most continuously held vineyard the family owns. Century-old vines give tiny berries and low yields, which is why merchants who taste the range regularly single out the Perrières — it repeatedly shows above its classification. Xavier Horiot, a former French Air Force fighter pilot, spent ten years in court honouring his grandfather's wish that the domaine survive; roughly 4 hectares of the original 11.5 came through, and this parcel is the piece with the deepest family history. Magnums age more slowly and more evenly than bottles, so this is the format to put away.
