Edouard Jayer — Henri Jayer's uncle and Cécile's great-grandfather — worked as a cooper in Nuits-Saint-Georges before the First World War, and in 1921 married Esther Fournier, whose inheritance became the basis of the estate. The vines were leased out to other growers for decades; Cécile took back three hectares in 2002-03 and has been reclaiming more as leases expire, reaching close to ten. Les Rouges du Dessus is one of the treasures: it sits on top of the hill in Flagey-Échézeaux, with Échézeaux and Grands Échézeaux below it and forest above.
